Today is my 3rd day in San Marcos and I’m settling in pretty well. The town is a labyrinth of walking paths punctuated by different little shops, healing centres, restaurants, and hostels. There are signs on all kinds of bulletin boards advertising every holistic/spiritual/’out there’ treatment you could ever imagine. Rebirthing, intuitive massage, readings based on your birthdate or family tree, lucid dreaming, cacao ceremonies: find it all, and more, here! As expected there are people of every ethnicity with every kind of tattoos, piercings, clothing, etc that you can imagine too.
We’re staying at Las Pyramides for a full month to do the ‘moon course’. It started the day after the full moon and finishes the day of the next full moon. We have yoga in the morning, metaphysics at noon, and meditation in the evenings. There are about 20 people in the course with a wide range of experience levels. All teachings are done in a large pyramid, complete with crystals and symbols for the elements.
Remember all that stress about finding white clothes to wear? Guess we only have to wear white during the full moon ceremony on the last day! AND you can ‘rent’ clothes to wear. Anyone want some Value Village white pants?
Though we’ve only had 1 evening and 1full day of classes I can tell you that I’ve learned and felt things that are new and exciting. Sundays we have the day off, but we can use the pyramid shaped sauna! Did I mention that we sleep in pyramids? There are individual (and some double) pyramids all over the grounds. There’s also a medicinal plant and herb garden with meditation pyramids and a library filled with interesting books.
Sound like I’ve drank the kool-aid? You decide.
